Episode 9: Gloria, The Empress, A Place to Call Home


It’s 1968 at a rural outpost outside Lisbon which houses an elaborate facility. It’s manned by a group of engineers and broadcasts the messages of Radio Free Europe to countries behind the Iron Curtain. But, embedded in this center is a spy, formerly the privileged son of the Portuguese establishment. How he succeeds and fails in his efforts to thwart the Western messages and what measures are taken by both sides of the political spectrum is the essence of GLORIA.


THE EMPRESS chronicles the life of Elizabeth, a Bavarian Duchess who became queen of the Austro Hungarian empire. A wild child bohemian, she was not only a departure from the typical royal but also influenced policy for the empire.


In the decades following WW 11 an unusual Sydney native, a beautiful nurse, moves to an Australian suburb where she influences the lives of a powerful family and all those around her as several generations struggle to reconcile the new post-war world that confronts them.
